When I was a child, 20th century was a remote future. My uncle, who was

over 60 years old, looked very old with his gray hair at that time. As I've got older,

silver color occupies black. The sense of the last summer in 19th century urges me

to this challenge.

The snow on top of the Rocky mountains will disappear in May. I am going to head

east from northern Seattle with a sleeping bag, light meal, cloths, a camera and it's

equipment, roles of films and state-of-the-art digital communication equipment on

the bike. My goal is Southampton University in Southampton NY. At the time

I get there, daylight hours will have got shorter and a new semester of my university

will just around the corner. I can not waste my time. In September, 1991, I biked 1800

kilometers from Canada to LIU to collect donations for our university. It was my 53

-and-a half-year's adventurous challenge. In 1999, I will be 61 years old. In this

chaotic world with the problems about aging society, environment, human health and

food, global communication, I want to keep challenging to raise founds for the

disabled youth in America and Japan. I will be happy if you support me for the

achievement of  my goal.  Yoshiharu Higa
